The Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) is proud to announce that Scholars Portal is now the first certified Trustworthy Digital Repository in Canada. OCUL, which has been acquiring and managing digital content since 2002, is committed to the long-term preservation of scholarly resources for the benefit of future students and researchers.  We are delighted now to reach this important preservation milestone.

This certification, the only generally recognized certification for digital archives, was issued by the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) following an audit of the Scholars Portal Journals repository conducted between January and July 2012. The CRL audit measured the compliance of Scholars Portal with internationally established criteria for trusted digital repositories, including the Trustworthy Repositories Audit & Certification: Criteria and Checklist1 (TRAC). The final audit report is now available on the CRL website.

OCUL is a highly collaborative organization, and the journey to TDR status was most certainly a collaborative effort. A great number of people from the OCUL TDR Steering Committee, OCUL Information Resources Committee and the broader OCUL community have contributed to this effort. We are also indebted to those from the broader world of digital preservation who have shared their time and insights. Congratulations, and thanks to all who contributed their time and expertise in this endeavor.

OCUL and Scholars Portal look forward to building on past success and contributing to the development of a national digital preservation strategy.  Libraries in Canada will play a central role in developing that strategy, and OCUL is proud to play an important part in moving that agenda forward.
