AI + Digitization + Accessibility: Register Now for OCUL’s First AI Exchange

Sign up for the first session in the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) AI Exchange Program. 

Open to any academic library worker interested in locally developed AI-related training and expertise, the AI Exchange Program is designed to help attendees consider the ethical, academic, and operational implications of AI technologies.

In this one-hour presentation, Digitization Services Librarian Mark Pellegrino will highlight how the McMaster Digitization Centre is leveraging AI tools to enhance accessibility in digital collections. 

You’ll hear about the challenges and unpredictability of programming for AI, lessons learned from costly early trials, and how the McMaster team is deepening their understanding of OpenAI API in a Python development environment. The session will also explore work with AI-powered PDF remediation, including a promising tool to transform inaccessible PDFs into WCAG-compliant documents with optical character recognition, semantic tagging, and alternative text.
