Scholars Portal Awarded the Prix Micheline-Persaud by ABO-Franco
Scholars Portal is this year’s recipient of ABO-Franco's Prix Micheline-Persaud as announced at the 2023 OLA Super Conference.
For Scholars Portal, this award recognizes the exceptional support offered through Clavardez avec nos bibliothécaires, the French component of the Ask a Librarian virtual reference service that connects students, faculty and researchers from participating libraries with real-time research assistance through online chat.
“We strive to provide the best service to support academic communities and Clavardez wouldn’t be possible without the schools that are a driving force behind its implementation and success,” explains Guinsly Mondésir, Virtual Reference Librarian at Scholars Portal. “A special thank you goes to the University of Ottawa for their leadership in this initiative, as they originally put forth the idea for a bilingual chat service.”
The Prix Micheline-Persaud is awarded based on evaluated nominations from the academic library community and honours an individual, group or institution that has distinguished itself in the development and promotion of francophone library services in Ontario. Scholars Portal was nominated by Annie N'tula Mankeni, User Engagement Coordinator at the University of Ottawa Libraries and the local area chat coordinator.
Clavardez first launched in 2014 as an OCUL collaboration with the libraries at the University of Ottawa, Laurentian University and Glendon Campus, York University, to provide equal access to reference help for French speakers. Today, Clavardez has merged with Ask a Librarian into one seamless, virtual reference service and more than 30,000 chat inquiries were answered from across Ontario in 2022.

Scholars Portal reçoit le Prix Micheline-Persaud de l’ABO-Franco
Scholars Portal est le récipiendaire du Prix Micheline-Persaud de l’ABO-Franco cette année. Cette annonce a été faite dans le cadre du congrès annuel 2023 de la Ontario Library Association (OLA) le 2 février.
Pour Scholars Portal, ce prix récompense le soutien exceptionnel offert par Clavardez avec nos bibliothécaires, la composante française du service collaboratif de référence virtuel Ask a Librarian qui offre un appui à la recherche en temps réel par clavardage aux étudiants, aux professeurs et aux chercheurs des universités ontariennes participantes.
« Nous nous efforçons de fournir le meilleur service afin de soutenir les communautés universitaires et Clavardez ne n’aurait pas été possible sans le personnel qui ont été la force motrice derrière sa mise en œuvre et son succès, explique Guinsly Mondésir, bibliothécaire de référence virtuelle à Scholars Portal. Un remerciement particulier est adressé à l’Université d’Ottawa pour son leadership dans cette initiative puisque cette institution est à l’origine de l’idée même d’un service de clavardage dans les deux langues officielles au pays. »
Le Prix Micheline-Persaud est décerné en fonction de nominations évaluées par ABO-Franco et honore une personne, un groupe ou une organisation qui s’est distingué dans le développement et la promotion des services de bibliothèques francophones en Ontario. La candidature de Scholars Portal a été proposée par Annie N’tula Mankeni, coordinatrice de l’engagement des usagers aux bibliothèques de l’Université d’Ottawa et coordinatrice du clavardage pour l’université.
Clavardez a été lancé en 2014 dans le cadre d’une collaboration du Conseil des bibliothèques universitaires de l’Ontario (CUBO) avec les bibliothèques de l’Université d’Ottawa, de l’Université Laurentienne et du campus Glendon de l’Université York afin de fournir un accès égal à l’aide de référence pour les francophones en Ontario. Aujourd’hui, Clavardez a fusionné avec Ask a Librarian en un seul service de référence virtuel et homogène et plus de 30 000 demandes de clavardage ont reçu des réponses partout dans la province en 2022.
