The Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) is now accepting applications for the 2027 Visiting Researcher Program. This is an opportunity for library professionals from the OCUL membership to dedicate part of their research leave to a project that aligns with the consortium’s strategic priorities and/or academic library services or librarianship.
Through the Visiting Researcher Program, OCUL offers in-kind support, including staff expertise and technology resources, to help facilitate project success. Visiting Researchers are expected to share their project outcomes with the OCUL membership, for example, as part of a webinar or featured on the consortium website.
Eligibility and Application Process
Applicants must be employed at an OCUL member library and taking a sabbatical that starts in the 2027 calendar year. Strong communication skills in both French and English are considered an asset.
To apply, please submit the following:
- A current curriculum vitae
- An introductory letter outlining the proposed research and its relevance to OCUL’s current strategic priorities and/or benefits to academic librarianship writ large, including an anticipated project start date
- A letter of support from the library director

Past Visiting Researchers
The OCUL program has supported researchers exploring a broad range of library-related topics, including generative AI and authorship, new technologies’ impact on academic libraries, and institutional participation in cataloguing collectives.
