The November 2026 installment of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) Beyond the Algorithm Reading Club invites participants to explore how AI may reshape the labour of education while leaving many fundamentally human dimensions of educational work intact.
Beyond the Algorithm is a three-part reading club, featuring a curated article on an AI-related topic impacting academic libraries, a recorded conversation with a guest expert, and an online community discussion to spark reflection and conversation with peers.
For November, participants can:
- Read "Beyond Work: AI and Educational Labour" by Dr. Michael Mindzak for an analysis that considers the future of work in education amidst the evolving presence of AI.
- Watch a conversation between Dr. Mindzak and Kari D. Weaver as they discuss AI’s influence on educational values and future relationships between educational labour and AI.
- Share thoughts and insights on the month’s reading, expert conversation, and topic at the online community discussion.
Community Discussion Details
- Date and time: Tuesday, November 24, 2-3 p.m. Eastern Time
- Format: Online via Zoom
