OCUL Opens Call for 2027 New Initiatives Fund Proposals

Published on 2026-07-30

The Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) is inviting proposals for the next round of funding through its New Initiatives Fund, with approved projects’ funding to start May 1, 2027.

The New Initiatives Fund provides annual financial support for high-impact projects that advance OCUL's strategic priorities and broadly enhance the teaching, learning, and research environment for Ontario university libraries.

Established to support significant strategic actions and innovative responses to emerging needs, the fund is the consortium’s primary opportunity for substantive project funding.

  • Proposed projects can span one to three years.
  • Proposals can be for up to $100,000 per year.
  • Projects must start in the 2027-2028 fiscal year (May 1, 2027-April 30, 2028).

Proposals can be submitted by OCUL Communities, Committees, Subcommittees, and other entities that are part of the consortium’s governance structure. Proposals from external groups may be considered when submitted in partnership with OCUL or an entity within its governance structure.

A New Initiatives Fund proposal must include a business case and budget using OCUL-provided templates. Proposals are due by September 15, 2026 and templates are available through SPOTDocs (member login required).

Proposals are evaluated based on their potential benefits and outcomes, the anticipated budget, and strategic alignment with OCUL priorities.

Visit the New Initiatives Fund webpage for eligibility details, terms of reference, and project requirements.
